The Spindle Tree is a story of Lost Childhood and Redemption set against the background of one of the harshest winters of the twentieth century in 1962. Sarah Cregan must take desperate measures to protect her three younger brothers from being taken into care when her mother dies suddenly. With the help of her brothers, she hides her mother’s body in an old mausoleum to await her father’s return from working in England. Until then, she must pretend that all is well in her household. But as the days go by, there is no sign of her father. Help will come from the most unlikely sources, which set off a chain of events which will draw Sarah and her brothers back to their childhood home many years later. What will they find there? Will the great big house of cards come crashing down on them, or will they find redemption?
